Cubs Trade Esteban Quiroz to Phillies for Cash

The Cubs have traded infielder Esteban Quiroz to the Phillies for cash considerations, per Taylor McGregor of Marquee Sports Network. Quiroz was acquired from the Rays almost exactly a year ago and made his MLB on September 17, appearing in 14 games and posting a .275 average with a 95 wRC+ over 47 plate appearances. Not bad, but not quite enough for a 31-year-old second baseman to carve out a niche.

The diminutive Quiroz was another good story on a team that had several fun personalities to follow even if the overall story arc was blah, so maybe the Cubs should have tried him at third. In all seriousness, there are already too many utility infielders in the organization and I just hope Quiroz can find a role with the Phillies.
