The Cubs have won four in a row after taking the first game of this series from the Colorado Rockies on Friday. With a win today they’ll take their second straight series as they look to close out the 2022 season on a high note. Of the Cubs’ remaining 18 games, 15 of them are against teams that are under .500, which sets the Cubs up for a strong stretch.

Hayden Wesneski has made two appearances for the Cubs so far since being traded from the New York Yankees in exchange for RHP Scott Effross. Both games he’s come in on relief, with his first outing resulting in complete domination of the Reds after five innings and eight strikeouts.

Against the San Francisco Giants, Wesneski’s second outing, things didn’t go as well. Over 3.2 innings he gave up three runs and four hits, including two home runs. Wesneski needs to use this start today as a springboard to getting established as a big league starter, with a short memory and focus on the batter in the box. A strong start today will go a long way in helping him build confidence that he can carry into next season.

Zach McKinstry has been trending up lately, including a triple and home run in yesterday’s win, he’s leading off today and playing second. Ian Happ is in left, Patrick Wisdom is at third, Alfonso Rivas is at first, and P.J. Higgins is catching. Michael Hermosillo is in center, Jared Young is DH, Nelson Velazquez is in right, and Christopher Morel is in center.

First pitch is scheduled for 1:20pm CT from beautiful and historic Wrigley Field.
