Miguel Amaya Left Friday’s Game After Apparently Injuring Hand

Miguel Amaya‘s 2022 comeback tour may have ended prematurely, as he left Friday’s game after apparently injuring his hand sliding into second while trying to stretch for a double. After being examined by a trainer, Amaya walked off holding his left hand. Here’s to hoping it’s just a dislocated finger or a mild wrist sprain that won’t shelve him too long.

Amaya missed most of last season and the first few months of this year after undergoing elbow reconstruction last November, so he’s gotten only 229 total plate appearances since 2019. A catcher by trade, he has not been behind the plate yet this season as the Cubs continue to rest that elbow.

He was hitting .254 with .727 OPS in 79 PAs as a designated hitter for Tennessee, which isn’t bad considering all that time off. Again, let’s just hope this is something minor and that he can finish the season healthy before what could be another stint in the Arizona Fall League to make up for lost time.

Update: Amaya indeed dislocated his left ring finger and is considered day-to-day.
