Cubs Activate Steven Brault, Option Anderson Espinoza to AAA

The Cubs have activated left-handed pitcher Steven Brault off the COVID-19 injured list and optioned right-handed pitcher Anderson Espinoza to Triple-A Iowa after last night’s game.

Brault has no record and no runs allowed in 5.2 innings pitched over five relief appearances. In a rehab assignment with Triple-A Iowa from August 12-14, he made two relief appearances and did not allow a run in 2.1 innings pitched. He missed the first three months of the season with a left triceps strain and was activated from Iowa’s 60-day injured list on July 4, after which he made three scoreless relief appearances before being called up to Chicago.

Espinoza, 24, has made six relief appearances for Chicago and owns an 0-2 record with a 4.11 ERA. He made his big-league debut in the nightcap of the May 30 doubleheader against Milwaukee, allowing two runs in 4.0 innings.
