Jake Slaughter Named Southern League Player of the Month for June
Third baseman Jake Slaughter has been tearing it up since being promoted to Double-A Tennessee on June 4 and his performance with the Smokies was enough to earn him Southern League Player of the Month honors. Slaughter slashed .344/.423/.689, good for a league-leading 1.112 OPS, and was second in batting average and total bases (62).

The 25-year-old can’t be found on any top prospects lists because he’s a late bloomer whose previous career-best OPS was .763 in 2019 at short-season Eugene and Low-A South Bend. But with an organization whose rising stars are primarily in the outfield or middle infield, Slaughter and slugging teammate Matt Mervis could end up making their way to Chicago to man the corners this year or next.
