Cubs Trade LHP Eric Stout to Pirates for Cash

The Cubs and Pirates are battling for little more than draft lottery percentages at this point, but that’s not stopping them from working out trades. The two teams have agreed to a deal that sends lefty Eric Stout to Pittsburgh in exchange for cash considerations. In other words, the Cubs traded Stout to the Bucs for bucks.

Stout made two appearances for the Cubs, allowing two earned runs on three hits and striking out six with one walk over 3.2 innings. He was designated for assignment when Adrian Sampson was promoted, and the long-delayed move to limit pitching staffs to 13 meant there simply wasn’t room on the roster.

The Cubs have been really bad and looking at their transactions from just the last 10 days is not a very entertaining exercise. It’s like a carousel of expendable pitchers who don’t factor in future plans, along with several other procedural moves to create space. Alas.
