Watch: Cubs’ No. 6 Prospect Pete Crow-Armstrong Clubs HR No. 5

Owen Caissie wasn’t the only outfield prospect the Cubs added last year via trade who’s been dropping bombs lately. Outfielder Pete Crow-Armstrong, who came from the Mets organization in return for Javier Báez and Trevor Williams, was lauded for his elite defensive skills and contact-heavy plate approach but has been turning heads by making loud noises.

The Cubs got to work with him on maximizing his swing once he had fully rehabbed from shoulder surgery that shut him down for most of last year. That injury is the main reason PCA was available to the Cubs at all, and it’s starting to look like the Mets made a big mistake. Shocker, I know.

The Southern California native who grew up a Cubs fan is absolutely destroying the Low-A Carolina League to the tune of a .375 average and 1.039 OPS. Those marks were buoyed by a big homer Friday night, and against a lefty to boot.

This dude looks like everything Albert Almora Jr. was supposed to be and then some, so look for him to be moving up to South Bend before too long. Once there, he’ll be united with the 19-year-old Caissie to form a very young outfield combo that will be a real problem for opposing pitchers.
