Chicago Cubs Lineup (5/4/22): Rivas Leading Off, Contreras Catching, Hendricks on Hill Looking to Bounce Back

The Chicago Cubs take on the White Sox at Wrigley Field tonight in the second game of this two-game series, hoping for a split with a win tonight. Their offense has been pretty rough lately, having been held to one run or less for the past week.

Kyle Hendricks (1-2, 5.47 ERA) will be looking to get his game back on track after a rough outing in Milwaukee where he got knocked around for six runs in 4.1 IP. In that game, his groundball rate was a season-low 17.6%, and you’re not going to win too many games allowing your opponents to launch balls in the air with impunity.

Alfonso Rivas leads off yet again from first base for the Cubs tonight. I’m beginning to sense a trend here, and hopefully, it sticks because Rivas has looked very good early and his defense at first is an upgrade compared with Frank Schwindel.

Seiya Suzuki bats second playing right, followed by Ian Happ in left, Willson Contreras catching, the aforementioned Schwindel back in as DH, and Nico Hoerner at short. Jason Heyward is not going anywhere, in case you were curious, and he’s back in center batting seventh followed by Patrick Wisdom at third and Nick Madrigal at second.

The White Sox will counter with RHP Lucas Giolito (0-1, 2.57 ERA). So we’ll see if the Cubs can break out of their offensive funk against one of the better pitchers in MLB.

Game time is set for 6:40pm CT and can be seen and heard on Marquee Sports Network and 670 The Score.
