Suzuki Starting Friday Against Rockies, Givens One-Year Deal Finalized, Alcántara Designated For Assignment

Seiya Suzuki is set to make his debut with the Cubs on Friday at Sloan Park against none other than Kris Bryant and the Colorado Rockies. And while the timing is purely coincidence, it’s certainly apropos of where the Cubs currently find themselves compared to where they’ve come from.

Of course, we don’t know if Bryant will be in the lineup on Friday but we’ll be disappointed if he’s not. There’s no doubt he should be, but, unfortunately, we don’t have any say in the Rockies’ lineups. In any case, it will be very exciting to see Suzuki showing off the home pinstripes at Sloan.

In other news, the Cubs have officially signed RHP Mychal Givens to a one-year major league contract with a mutual option for 2023. It’s possible that Givens ends up as the closer but that remains to be seen.

In order to make room on the 40-man roster — which is currently well over 40 — the Cubs designated INF Sergio Alcántara for assignment.
