Cubs Acquire OF Harold Ramirez from Cleveland

The Cubs announced Monday that they have acquired outfielder Harold Ramirez from the Cleveland Guardians for cash considerations. Ramirez appeared in 99 games for Cleveland last season, hitting .268 with seven home runs, 21 doubles, and 41 RBI. He posted a .288 average against left-handed pitching and appeared at all three outfield positions.

Acquired by Cleveland off waivers from Miami on February 24, the 27-year-old Ramirez was designated for assignment on November 19. He made his major league debut with the Marlins in 2019 and has a .271 average with 18 homers, 41 doubles, four triples, and 92 RBI.

Ramirez has hit .303 with 35 homers, 128 doubles, 22 triples, and 311 RBI in 614 games spent with several different organizations. While he does seem to have some potential as an extra outfielder, this puts the 40-man roster at 38 and feels like one of those moves where the Cubs could try to sneak him through waivers and stash him at Triple-A.
