They say a picture is worth a thousand words, so I won’t add much more here. Tempers flared in Cincy Saturday afternoon after Amir Garrett took his celebration to a point the Cubs felt was over the line when he jawed at Anthony Rizzo after striking the first baseman out. Javy Báez, no stranger to the occasional celebratory gesture himself, took issue with Garrett’s behavior.

It should also be noted that this is far from the first time the lefty reliever has caused a stir, either with the Cubs or other teams. He’s had some decent takes on the subjects from pimping homers to social justice, but Charlie Murphy might have referred to him as a habitual line-stepper.

“He’s got a style. We all get that,” Báez said after the game. “But I’m just not going let him or anyone disrespect my teammates or my team. It was not a big situation, you know? I’m going to try to stay professional with this, but…it doesn’t matter who does it in the game. If someone else does it again, we’ll go out there again.”

Garrett’s ERA now stands at 11.25 after recording two outs without giving up a run, so you have to imagine there was a fair bit of frustration being released after the Rizzo strikeout. Same goes for Javy, who always runs hot but has been cold far too often this season. If nothing else, it certainly brought out the worst in a few too many characters online.

As always, the best way to get back at someone is to beat them on the field, so maybe the Cubs can see to it that they leave Cincinnati with a win.
