Cubs Activate Matt Duffy from COVID-19 IL, Option Ildemaro Vargas

The Cubs have activated Matt Duffy after a brief stay on the COVID-19 related injured list, returning Ildemaro Vargas to the alternate site to make room on the roster. Duffy, who was placed on the IL this past Tuesday, made the roster after signing a minor league deal this winter and is batting .125 in very limited action as a utility infielder.

Vargas received just two plate appearances during his brief stay, going 0-for-2 with a groundout and lineout. It would be fair to call this a reshuffling of deck chairs on the Titanic, but the Cubs look more like Captain Quint’s Orca at this point. Guess that means they’re gonna need a bigger boat. Or just a bigger Bote.
