Chicago Cubs Score and Recap (3/25/21): Dodgers 5, Cubs 2 – Alzolay Strong in Cubs Loss
The Cubs welcomed the defending World Series champion Dodgers to Sloan Park Thursday night. Adbert Alzolay, who has struggled this spring, made the most of his final Cactus League appearance of 2021 in what ended up being an LA victory. (Box score)
Why the Cubs Lost
The Cubs hitters got very little going against the Dodgers pitching staff and wasted a quality effort by Alzolay.
Key Moment
Will Smith lined a two-run single off of lefty Brendon Little in the top of the 4th inning to give LA a 2-0 lead.
Stats That Matter
- Alzolay was lights out before exiting with the two men on base in the 4th: 3.2 IP, 2 R, 1 H, 5 K, and 1 BB.
- Brennen Davis ripped a run-scoring double in the bottom of the 8th inning.
- We got the full Dillon Maples treatment Thursday. He walked the bases loaded in the 7th and then struck out the side in the 8th.
Bottom Line
Alzolay helped build his case to earn a position on the final roster against a fully-loaded Dodgers lineup. We’ll find out soon if it was enough.
On Deck
The Cubs face the Giants at Sloan Park Friday at 3:05pm CT in a game airing on Marquee Sports Network.
