Chicago Cubs Lineup (8/19/20, Game 2): Happ Leads Off, Kipnis at 2B, Alzolay Starting

It’s like déjà vu all over again as the Cubs have another doubleheader with the Cardinals. The abbreviated games have an odd feel, but maybe that’s better than a regulation affair lasting four hours. Here’s to hoping the Cubs come out of this one with another win.

Ian Happ is back in center, followed by Anthony Rizzo and Javy Báez. Kyle Schwarber is in left, Willson Contreras is the DH, Jason Heyward is in right, Victor Caratini is the catcher, David Bote is at third, and Jason Kipnis is at second.

Adbert Alzolay is on the mound a couple days late, as a bruise suffered when taking a comebacker off the arm pushed him back from a Monday start. He’ll try to eat a few innings and spare the bullpen to whatever extent he can in what might actually be an audition for an eventual relief role. While the Cubs rotation hasn’t been taxed by these twin bills, the ‘pen hasn’t been as lucky.

Between the heavy usage and the continued inability to throw strikes, David Ross might be looking for some replacements before long.
