Cubs Trade OF Prospect Jimmy Herron to Rockies for International Money

In what was likely their final move of the day, the Cubs sent sent High-A outfielder Jimmy Herron to the Rockies in exchange for international pool money. The 23-year-old Herron was the Cubs’ third-round pick in 2018 (No. 98 overall) and has shown solid contact skills with a good plate approach, but was batting just .220 with a .656 OPS in 373 plate appearance for Myrtle Beach.

Not quite as noteworthy as landing Nicholas Castellanos just ahead of the deadline for a pair of pitching prospects. Or sending Carl Edwards Jr. to San Diego for lefty Brad Wieck in a subsequent trade. Or their first deal of the day that sent Martín Maldonado to Houston for utilityman Tony Kemp. But it takes all kinds of moves to build an organization and the Cubs definitely made all kinds of moves Wednesday.

They also spent pretty big on IFA targets in the most recent period, so perhaps they’re building up for another run next time around. In any case, this was a pretty full day and I’m ready for a nap.
