Cubs Reportedly Promoting Ian Happ from AAA

The Chicago Cubs will be calling up Ian Happ ahead of their crucial series against the Milwaukee Brewers. Happ was optioned to Iowa following spring training and took awhile to find his strike, but he has been on a tear lately after figuring things out.

Citing “a source with direct knowledge of the situation,” Tommy Birch of the Des Moines Register is reporting that the Cubs will promote Happ within the next 36 hours.

In July, the super-utility player has hit .324 with a remarkable 18.7% walk rate and a 20.9% strikeout rate. And that reduction in strikeouts has come without sacrificing power, which is no small feat. In 74 July plate appearances, he has mashed five homers, four doubles, and a triple, all of which have contributed to a .443 wOBA.

No corresponding move has been announced yet, though speculation is that David Bote or Albert Almora Jr. will be optioned. We’ll let you know as soon as more information becomes available.
