Cubs Roster News: Carl Edwards Jr. to 10-Day IL with Left Thoracic Strain, Tim Collins Called Up
As the Cubs prepare for a four-game series in Los Angeles with the Dodgers, we’ve got a little bit of shuffling in the bullpen to deal with. Carl Edwards Jr. has been placed on the 10-day injured list with a left thoracic (upper back muscle) strain. Left-hander Tim Collins has been recalled from AAA Iowa to take his place.

Obviously any injury news is never welcome, but this comes at a particularly frustrating time for Edwards. After being demoted earlier in the season, he has been excellent in relief for the Cubs since returning from Iowa. He has not allowed an earned run in nine straight appearances out of the bullpen, with the last coming on May 21 against the Phillies.
Since returning from Triple-A, Edwards had a 2.03 ERA with 15 K vs. 3 BB in 13.1 innings, with only 4 hits allowed. Limited hitters to a .093 average and .335 OPS during that time period.
Felt OK Sunday, but reported soreness on Monday. Cubs opted not to take chances.

Collins has already had multiple stints with the Big this season with his last outing coming on May 26 against the Reds. In total, Collins has thrown 4.2 innings for the Cubs across five games and has posted a 3.86 ERA with a 1.93 WHIP.
