Baseball Things Happening at Sloan Park: Contreras and Bote Hit BP, Heyward Taking Grounders at Third
Cubs pitchers and catchers reported to Mesa to kick off 2019 Spring Training. Yep, baseball is here. And this morning I swung by Sloan Park to see if I could catch any players out on the practice fields. And wouldn’t you know, I saw real, live baseball.
I posted a few videos on the Cubs Insider Twitter account and there will be lots more content, including some live feeds, posted throughout spring training. So be sure to follow us on social medial for all our updates. My first stop was the south side of Sloan, where workers were putting up new player posters for this spring. And no, I did not see one for Bryce Harper…
I then swung by Field 2, just adjacent to the Cubs’ player performance center. David Bote was looking quite fit — undoubtedly looking to take things up a notch or three — and he was crushing the ball effortlessly. Willson Contreras was in the box taking swings as well.
A little later on, Bote participated in fielding drills at third base, along with Ian Happ and…Jason Heyward. Don’t read into that too much, J-Hey takes infield practice every year.
