Strop Out Rest of Regular Season as MRI Reveals Moderate Hamstring Strain

The results of the MRI on Pedro Strop’s hamstring are in and they’re not great. It’s maybe not the worst possible news, but the diagnosis of a moderate strain will keep the de facto closer on the shelf for at least the remainder of the regular season.

Strop will be re-evaluated at the conclusion of the season to determine his postseason eligibility. With Brandon Morrow still a big question and several other relievers struggling right now, Strop’s return to health  is kind of a big deal. The Cubs may even activate him if he’s less than 100 percent, something we saw with Jake Arrieta last year.

If there’s a silver lining to this, it’s that they’ve already ruled Strop out and will have to proceed with that knowledge. Sometimes even bad news you’re sure of is better than operating with uncertainty. Time for someone to step up.
