Watch: Cole Hamels Talks Joining Cubs, Pitching at Wrigley

When the Cubs completed the trade for Cole Hamels this past Thursday, it felt like a play on possibilities. Everyone knows what Hamels can bring to the table but it really depends on whether he can hearken his inner beast to deliver that level of talent on the mound for the Cubs.

We all remember when he threw his first career no-hitter against the Cubs back on July 25, 2015. That game, and series, holds a lot of significance if you’re looking at it from a strictly Cubs-related perspective. It was following that series — when it felt like everything was falling apart — that the Cubs went on to put up a 46-20 record to close out a season that would end in the first of three straight NLCS appearances.

Lest we fail to mention, Cubs Insider may have played a small role in all of this. In case you’ve never realized, take a good close look at the header image of our Twitter and Facebook accounts. You may notice that it’s a picture of the final swing of Hamels’ no-hitter, when Kris Bryant flew out to end the game. Yep, been there the whole time.

And while it took Hamels three years to finally get traded to Chicago, it kinda feels like one of those full circle things. We’re not saying he’s going to be the MVP of the 2018 World Series, but stranger things have happened, right?

For now, let’s just listen as he shares his thoughts on joining the Cubs.
