CI Recap (3/8/18) – Cubs 10, Padres 4: Don’t Scare Me Like That, Javy (Video)

The Cubs offense jumped all over the Padres at Sloan Park Thursday. For a time, it looked like the spring win would come at a high price, but a serious injury to Javy Baez was avoided. (Box score)

Why the Cubs Won

The Cubs pounced on Padres’ starter Jordan Lyles in the 2nd inning, scoring five runs on six hits before Lyles was done for the day.

Key Moment

In that five-run 2nd inning, Baez doubled to left field to score two men and give the Cubs a 3-0 lead. He pulled up short at second with an aggravated left hamstring and had to leave the game, but, to relief of Cubs fans everywhere, it turned out to be nothing more than a little dehydration.

Stats That (Don’t) Matter

  • Tyler Chatwood made his third start, allowing two hits and two walks in three innings. He limited the damage to only one run.
  • Jason Heyward and Ben Zobrist each had a walk and a single; it was Zobrist’s first hit of the spring and only Heyward’s second.
  • Justin Wilson threw another clean inning and hasn’t walked a batter all spring

Bottom Line

There were some tense moments after Javy came out of the game, so just having a little dehydration is by far the best outcome. On to the next game.
