Cubs Officially Set Rotation For Milwaukee, Arrieta Starts Thursday
We had last heard that Jake Arrieta was planning to start the series opener in Milwaukee after another successful throwing session, and this afternoon we go the official confirmation. Arrieta will return to the Cubs rotation on Thursday night, followed by John Lackey, Kyle Hendricks, and Jose Quintana. After his stellar outing in Tampa Bay Tuesday night, Mike Montgomery should be available out of the pen to piggyback if necessary.
This sets Arrieta up to get three total starts in the remainder of the regular season, including one in St. Louis and then the final regular-season game against Cincinnati. Joe Maddon wouldn’t admit to anything beyond that, but the NLDS opener is set for five games after that Reds game and Arrieta should be all the way back to full strength by then.
