Watch: Lackey, Contreras Ejected After Erupting on Umpire (Including Postgame Remarks)

The Cubs and Cardinals were tied at one run apiece with Carlos Martinez at the plate and two outs. John Lackey threw what he, Martinez, everyone watching the game, and the MLB rulebook thought was strike three. Umpire Jordan Baker, however, disagreed.

Naturally, Martinez singled in the go-ahead run on the next pitch. Also naturally, Lackey and Willson Contreras absolutely lost it on the home plate umpire. Whether you think they went too far in their arguing (Contreras certainly may face further discipline for his mask hitting Baker in the leg after being thrown), there is no arguing that Baker missed the call. Pitch number five is the one in question.

Here is the full situation as it unfolded.

Here are Lackey and Contreras speaking to the media after the game via ESPN’s Jesse Rogers.
