Cubs Roster News: Zobrist to DL, La Stella Called Up
In a move that doesn’t come as much of a surprise, Ben Zobrist has been placed on the disabled list retroactive to June 13 due to left wrist inflammation. He has been dealing with the wrist injury since hurting it on a swing on May 26 against the Dodgers. Since then, Zobrist has noted he felt bothered by the wrist when swinging from the right side of the plate.
Zobrist is hitting just .223/.321/.394 in 2017, an obvious drop from his career norm. From May 29 (the first game after the injury) on, Zobrist has just a .103 batting average in 53 plate appearances.
In his place, Tommy La Stella will return to the MLB roster. La Stella has been with the Iowa Cubs, where he has a .213/.265/.266 slash line. He last played in an MLB game on May 19, when he drew a walk in two plate appearances.
#Cubs Zobrist to DL (left wrist inflammation). He’ll get MRI. La Stella to be added.
