Watch: Javy Baez Goes 4-For-4, Falls a Double Short of Cycle

Posting a slash line of .203/.262/.339 is enough to get the best of them benched, but don’t tell that to the May version of Javy Baez. Sure, it’s only been two games, but in those two games Javy is hitting .750/.750/1.750 with two home runs.

Monday’s performance offered a glimmer of hope for his season. On Tuesday, Javy shined bright like a diamond going 4-for-4. After hitting a solo home run, a single and a triple, Javy needed only a double to become the first National League batter hitting ninth in the order to hit for the cycle, ever.

In his fourth at-bat, he hit a bloop that fell in between the second baseman and right fielder. Dashing out of the batter’s box, Javy looked like he was going to try and stretch it and then, at the last possible moment, he pulled up and settled for a single.

It was the right decision — he would’ve been out by a mile — and a reflection of what a more polished version of Javy Baez looks like.
