Chicago Cubs Lineup: Hendricks Debuts, Javy Baez Starts at 2B(?!)

Today’s Cubs lineup is pretty similar to what we’ve been seeing, though there are some subtle differences. The top six spots are par for the course — Masters humor, get it? — but seven is a bit of a surprise.

Yep, that’s Javy Baez at second base, the day after a scary-looking collision that looked for a moment like a season-ender. Bringing up the rear is Albert Almora Jr., making his second start. You’ll also notice that Ben Zobrist is in right, which means rest for Jason Heyward.

In case you were wondering, the big outfielder’s absence is due to Brewers lefty starter Tommy Milone and has nothing to do with the effects of running into Baez.

Which, can we just talk again about how nuts it is that Baez isn’t on the DL, let alone that he’s back in the lineup? I have implicit trust in the Cubs’ medical staff to do the right thing, so my shock is more about relief that he wasn’t even shaken up. Wow.

Kyle Hendricks is on the mound and batting eighth as he looks to build upon a strong spring. First pitch is at 6:10pm CT and the game will be on CSN+ and, as always, 670 The Score.
