- Willson Contreras added just over half a strike per game (0.54) in 2016, which was better than 75% of all MLB catchers (150 pitch minimum).
- Contreras is likely to get even better because his mentor, Miguel Montero, led MLB in strikes added per game (2.05).
- If we convert strikes added per game to run value, Montero’s pitch framing alone was worth 1.6 WAR in 2016. Keep in mind, though, that simply converting strikes added per game to a run value is fraught with limitations.
