Chicago Cubs Lineup – Sept 29, 2016: Bullpen Day for Cubs with Reserves Abound
Rob Zastryzny (1-0, 1.46 ERA) will take the hill for the Cubs (101-57) in what will be a bullpen day for them. Meaning, Joe will be happy to get four innings out of his starter and the rest of the game will be left up to the remainder of the bullpen. This will help Joe align the starters for their places in the rotation once the playoffs begin, which, for the Cubs will be at Wrigley Field on Friday, October 7th against the winner of the Wild Card.
The remainder of the lineup consists largely of reserves for the Cubs. Tommy La Stella will bat lead-off and play third base tonight. He’s followed by Albert Almora in center, Addison Russell – the lone regular in the lineup, and Willson Contreras – the remaining ‘sort of’ regular.
Tim Federowicz gets the start at catcher. The Cubs designated Tim for assignment earlier in the year and he cleared waivers and accepted a minor league deal with the Iowa Cubs. Ironically, that move by the Cubs was done to clear room on the roster to bring up Willson Contreras. Now, they will play in the same lineup together.
