Cubs Offense Stalls Against Brewers, Hendricks Solid Again
Kyle Hendricks (15-8, 2.06 ERA) was solid today but he gave up two early runs in the bottom of the second inning for the Chicago Cubs (94-55).
On the offensive side of things the Cubs left 11 men on base, going a combined 0-for-10 with runners in scoring position. It was one of those days when nothing seemed to go right. Normally, when a team has a day like this that team loses. Well that rang true for the Cubs today as they dropped the series finale to the Brewers by the score of 3-1 (Box Score).
Stats that matter
- Hendricks, with the exception of the 2nd inning, was very good again – 6.0IP, 2R, 6H, 9Ks, 97 pitches, 2-for-2
- Jason Heyward has reached base safely in 5 straight games – 2-for-4
Bottom line
Well, the Cubs clinched the National League Central and the one game they managed to win in this series was pretty awesome. So, there’s that. Not too much else that’s tremendously positive to take from this series. It turned into a real stinker but, in the end, it’s best just to move on and not spend a whole bunch of time and energy over-analyzing things.
