The Chicago Cubs have recalled Munenori Kawasaki from AAA Iowa and are optioning Jeimer Candelario back down.
In his short stint with the Cubs, Jeimer was 1-for-11. If you recall, he was called up on July 3 to cover for Chris Coghlan after he went on the disabled-list with a rib injury. While Candelario’s time with the Cubs was short, he didn’t do much when called on. He had a 35.7% strikeout rate, which was far worse than his rate of 19.4% in 75 at-bats for AAA Iowa before his call-up.
Kawasaki spent some time earlier this season with the Cubs. He went 1-for-2. Munenori brings a light-hearted attitude and great sense of humor to a Cubs team that’s not real up these days. They could use a bit of sunshine and Kawasaki will certainly help in that area.
