Chicago Cubs Lineup: Lackey Seeking Series Win, Almora Starting

John Lackey (6-2, 2.88 ERA) will take the ball today for the Cubs (40-17) as they are seeking their 14th series win this year. They’ll have to get it against the Phillies (29-30) top pitcher in Vince Velasquez (5-2, 3.76 ERA). Of course, the last time these two pitchers squared off, just last week, the Cubs won 7-2 and Velasquez lasted only 4.2 innings.

With the untimely injury to Jorge Soler, and subsequent trip to the DL, the Cubs will be trying to find the right balance in the lineup to plug the hole left by the surging Soler. Jorge was slashing .304/.407/.478 in his last 10 games with a 145 wRC+.

Today that hole will be filled by Albert Almora as he gets his first major league start. An exciting day, friends.
