Cubs Drop-Kick Phillies behind Soler, Ross & Bryant HRs (VIDEO)
The wind at Wrigley Field was flying in, then right-to-left, then straight out. And when it started blowing out the Cubs started hammering big-time home runs.
In the bottom of the fourth inning Jorge Soler crushed a 461 foot bomb, followed by a David Ross three-run home run — his 100th career home run. Kris Bryant got in the act with his one-run shot in the bottom of the fifth inning, and the rout was on.

That was all the runs the Cubs would need today behind a strong outing by Jon Lester. He allowed only two runs over 6 1/3 innings. The bullpen took over after about an hour rain delay and held the Phillies scoreless the rest of the way — including after a strangely timed second rain delay in the top of the ninth inning.

Bottom line
The Cubs offense seems like it’s back in full swing and being powered largely by Kris Bryant and Jorge Soler. Jorge has been looking very good swinging the bat lately. He’s not just hitting the ball well, he looks much more comfortable at the plate too. He’s laying off the soft stuff and pounding the balls he should be pounding. If he keeps this up it’s going to be a very long summer for opposing pitchers who’ll have to try and deal with him.
