Chicago Cubs Lineup: Lester Leads Cubs Against Padres, Baez in at Third

After the rain out on Monday, Jon Lester will take the mound tonight, barring another rain out, against the San Diego Padres. As I mentioned in the series preview, the Padres have been playing well lately. They’re 6-4 in their last ten and in their last three series have split with the Mets and taken 2 of 3 from both the Dodgers and the Rockies.

Javier Baez, after his amazing game-winning walk off home run in the 13th inning yesterday, is back in the lineup at third base tonight. Joe Maddon continues to say that he believes in Jorge Soler but, to me, Javier Baez at third with Bryant in left field is a better option than Soler in left and Bryant at third. Baez has shown he is very good defensively at third base and he’s been swinging the bat pretty well lately too. In 49 at-bats this year, Javy is slashing .306/.333/.490.

Here’s tonight’s Cubs lineup:

Monday 5/9 8:05pm
