Postgame Wrap: Cubs 10, Rockies 0; Jon Lester’s Incredible Day – VIDEO

It was the last day of Cactus League play today and Jon Lester sure did make it fun. Normally we’d be talking about Jon’s pitching performance, but today, Jon used his bat too. In an unexpected flash of power, Lester connected in the top of the fourth inning with a two-run home run. It turned out to be the first run in a seven-run inning for the Cubs. Here’s video of his home run:

And if that wasn’t enough, Jon added to his day with a great pitching performance as well. He went five innings and struck out ten batters, giving up only one hit and one walk. I think it’s safe to say that Jon is locked in and ready for the regular season.

After Lester’s home run, the offensive assault continued in the fourth inning. The Cubs would send twelve batters to the plate and score seven runs off seven hits and two walks. Kyle Schwarber hit his second home run of the spring, followed by singles from Bryant, Rizzo and La Stella, a walk by Russell and Szczur, and finally a double by David Ross, his second of the inning. Ross ended the game hitting 3 for 3 (he also had a two-run double in the bottom of the second inning) with four RBIs and one run. It was his best day of the spring. Here’s the final box score.

The seven-run seventh was all the Cubs needed today, as they cruised through the remainder of the game behind solid pitching from Adam Warren and Clayton Richard. Warren entered the game in the sixth inning and pitched two innings giving up two hits and no runs. Clayton Richard entered in the eighth inning and also pitched two innings giving up two hits, one walk and getting one strikeout.

This one went exactly like you would’ve drawn up to the end the 2016 Cactus League season for the Cubs. Now, if the end of the regular season is anything like this one, oh boy, do Cubs fans have something to look forward to!
