Postgame Wrap: Cubs Crush White Sox – VIDEO

It was a lovely day to watch the Cubs unleash a whipping on the White Sox. Of course, any day is a lovely day for that. There was plenty of offense today, some from the familiar sources and others from some of the young guys. Here’s a quick summary of the highlights:

  • Jason Hammel gave up no runs and went four innings, striking out four. He looked great considering it’s only spring training. It will be great if he can show this same form during the regular season. His fastball was in the low 90’s topping out at 93 MPH
  • Anthony Rizzo continued his hot spring, hitting a 2-run single in the bottom of the first inning. Video here:

  • Dexter Fowler got his second home run of the spring as he went 2 for 3 with three runs and one RBI. Good to see Dexter hitting the ball deep. While many felt he was not going to return, it sure will be nice to have him in the lineup this year and I think he fits really well with this team. Here’s video of his HR:

  • John Andreoli made his presence felt today with a nice, and rather unexpected, suicide squeeze to score Jeimer Candelario in the bottom of the first. He also had a triple, two singles and a stolen base. He’s having a solid spring and you can expect to hear his name again in the near future. Here’s video of that suicide squeeze:

  • In addition to the aforementioned studs, Munenori Kawasaki also had a nice day going 2 for 4 with a double and two RBIs, Jeimer Candelario continues to impress this spring going 2 for 3 scoring one run with one walk, and Jason Heyward went 1 for 3 with a walk and two runs scored.

A really great day for the Cubs all the way around. It’s nice to finally see a game where both pitching and hitting come together. This makes me really excited for the regular season to get here (fast please!) so we can see this team play together day-in and day-out. This is going to be fun, folks.
