Illustrations of Starlin Castro’s Hits Over the Last Four Seasons

This is going to be a very short post, word-wise. I tend to ramble a bit, but I know that many people absorb information more readily through visual cues. With that in mind, I’ve embedded spray charts and GIFs to illustrate Starlin Castro’s hitting tendencies since 2012 and I’ll leave the conclusions up to you.

The first set of four charts shows the type of hits Castro collected (single, double, etc), followed by a GIF that combines the images into sort of a digital flip book. Then comes a set of charts displaying how he hit the ball (ground ball, line drive, fly ball), followed by another GIF.

I found myself getting somewhat lost in the GIFs, kind of like staring at one of those 3D images that used to be so popular. But rather than seeing a schooner (or is it a sailboat?) hidden amidst a field of geometric patterns, I was searching for various trends. I looked at the different types of hits, how much of the field was being used, whether those routine grounders to third were really any more common. As such, I wanted to present this as just a bit of an exercise for you, my faithful reader.

I’d welcome you to present your own conclusions in the comments below. Thanks, and enjoy.
