A Tip of the Recap May 21st
Kyle Hendricks was the star of the night and pitched the Cubs to a 3-0 victory over the Padres.
The Good
Kyle Hendricks had the start of his life tonight, pitching a complete game shutout for the win. He gave up just 5 hits (all singles) without any walks and 7 Ks. It was a masterful performance and the game took just 2:08 to complete. Hendricks improved to 1-1 on the year and lowered his ERA to 4.14 for 2015.
Kris Bryant provided fireworks in the first inning tonight with a 2-run HR after Dexter Fowler led off the game with a walk. It was Bryant’s 5th HR and he now has 27 RBI on the year.
Addison Russell provided an extra insurance run with a solo HR (his 3rd) in the 7th inning; he also had a single to RF earlier in the game and is now hitting .253 on the year.
Starlin Castro is showing signs of shaking off his slump with 2 singles tonight to raise his AVG to .272 for the year.
The Bad
There was absolutely nothing bad about this one, it was quick, low on drama and the Cubs won another series.
On Deck
The Cubs will head to Arizona to start a 3 game series with the Diamondbacks Friday night. Game 1 will be a matchup between Jon Lester (4-2, 3.70) and Josh Collmenter (3-5, 5.36). First pitch is scheduled for 8:40 PM (CST) and the game can be found on CSN+.
