Keeping it Real Recap
Cubs fell to 0-4 on the spring with a 6-4 loss to the Texas Rangers today.
The Good
Albert Almora came into the game late and added an RBI single.
Kyle Schwarber pinch hit in the 9th and hit a high, deep fly ball that should have been caught, but wasn’t. The most important aspect of this was the fact that Schwarber was busting it out of the box and ended up on 3rd base. He got lots of praise from Pat and Ron for “Respecting 90.”
Zac Rosscup threw a perfect inning of work with 1 punch out.
Addison Russell played most of the game and went 1 for 3 with a double and had some nice plays defensively (by the sound of Pat and Ron).
The Bad
Jake Arrieta had 3 walks in two innings of work and gave up a HR to Mitch Moreland.
As a team, the Cubs struck out 12 times today and really struggled to get anything offensively going until the later innings.
The Ugly
Eric Jokisch did not have a good outing today. He gave up 4 runs on 6 hits (2 HRs) in 2 innings of work; granted it was a windy day that was made for offense, but it isn’t like that helped the Cubs score many runs.
Javier Baez continues to not alter his approach with 2 strikes and struck out in all 3 of his ABs.
On Deck
Cubs play tomorrow at 3:05 PM (CST) against the Padres with everyone’s favorite pitcher Edwin Jackson getting the start.
