Chicago Cubs Score and Recap (3/21/26): Cubs 7, Mariners 1 – Rea Sharp in Win
The Cubs continued to wind down spring training in Peoria against the Mariners on Saturday night. Most of the expected starters stayed home, but the road squad got big contributions from several players who are going to be important pieces on the roster as they went on to win easily.
Chicago jumped ahead on an RBI single by Miguel Amaya in the top of the 1st inning. Colin Rea was the starter and pitched well, giving up only one run after an errant pickoff throw in the 2nd that evened the score.
Dylan Carlson put the North Siders back on top with a solo home run to lead off the top of the 6th. Ben Cowles would add a two RBI single later in the frame to extend the advantage to 4-1.
The Cubs pushed across three more in the top of the 8th, including another run-scoring single by Cowles, and were victorious 7-1. (Box score)
Key Moment
Chicago moved in front in the 6th inning and never looked back.
Why the Cubs Won
The pitching was excellent against a lineup full of Mariners starters.
Stats That Matter
- It’s unclear what exact role Rea will fill in the pitching staff, but he will be important.
- Moisés Ballesteros had a hit and a walk.
- Michael Conforto celebrated officially making the roster with two hits.
Bottom Line
The final decisions are being made and the roster is rounding into shape. The Cubs didn’t really have that many position battles, so there isn’t much drama in the final few games of the spring.
On Deck
There are only three games left in Arizona, and the Cubs welcome the Brewers to Sloan Park on Sunday afternoon at 2:05pm CT. Cade Horton takes the mound in a game televised on Marquee.
