Bregman played for Team USA in the 2017 WBC, a tournament in which Team USA beat Puerto Rico 8-0 in the championship game. He did not see much playing time in that event, as he had appeared in only 49 games during his rookie season in 2016. After suffering a finger injury during the 2022 World Series, Bregman missed the 2023 WBC. He is now making his return to the world stage as a member of the Chicago Cubs.
The Cubs already have several players committed to play for Team USA, including Pete Crow-Armstrong and Matthew Boyd. Jameson Taillon and former Cub Owen Caissie will suit up for Team Canada.
