Cubs Option Ethan Roberts, Luke Little as Spring Roster Reduced to 42

The Cubs took another step toward getting down to an Opening Day roster of 26 players by making 11 more camp cuts on Friday. See press release below for details.

The Chicago Cubs today reduced the spring roster from 53 to 42 players.

Right-handed pitcher Ethan Roberts and left-handed pitcher Luke Little have been optioned to Triple-A Iowa.

Right-handed pitchers Phil Bickford, Chris Flexen, Ben Heller, Brooks Kriske and Trevor Richards; infielders Jonathon Long and James Triantos; and outfielders Greg Allen and Christian Franklin have been returned to minor league camp.

Chicago’s spring roster of 42 players consists of 21 pitchers (three non-roster invitees), five catchers (three non-roster invitees), ten infielders (two non-roster invitees) and six outfielders (one non-roster invitees).
