Cubs Sign Infielder Jon Berti to $2M Deal
As first reported by Robert Murray of FanSided, the Cubs have signed infielder Jon Berti. Mark Feinsand of MLB.com added that it’s a one-year deal with a $2 million guarantee and incentives that can push it to $3.3 million.
The 35-year-old Berti appeared in 25 games with the Yankees last season, slashing .273/.342/.318 with one home run, a 95 wRC+, and 0.3 fWAR. He’s a super-utility guy who has played in the infield and outfield, but he has played mainly third, second, and short over parts of six MLB seasons split between the Blue Jays, Marlins, and Yankees.
Not a bad way to celebrate his birthday.
