Chicago Cubs Lineup (9/20/24): Do You Really Care?

I’m getting ready to head out the door because I’m actually going to this afternoon’s game, after which I’m heading to Riot Fest to see Cypress Hill, The Offspring, and Public Enemy at Riot Fest. Should be a decent day in the Windy City. The good news as we head into the penultimate Friday afternoon game of the season is that the Cubs are effectively out of the race, which means no one really cares that they aren’t getting a thorough breakdown here.

Maybe some of you still do, and for that I’m thankful. It’s been a really weird season, typically not in a good way, but it’s beyond cool that so many folks choose to interact with us here. I just hope the organization does enough between now and the start of spring training to make 2025 a much more fun experience for all of us.

You can check the lineup card below if you want to, but rest assured it’s more of the same from the last few weeks. That’s a good thing in general given how well the offense has performed outside of some hiccups. Jameson Taillon is on the mound and he’s been pretty good lately, so maybe the Cubs can get another win to build their pride back a bit after the last two crappy series losses.

Going for the Nats is old friend Trevor Williams, who is *checks notes, checks again* 5-0 with a 2.22 ERA in 11 starts. This is his first appearance since May 30 due to an elbow issue that landed him on the 60-day IL, so it’s hard to say what he’ll be working with and how short a leash he’ll have. His 89 mph fastball was working incredibly well in the early going, but that feels like a mirage.

As much as I like the dude — and his dad’s great too, by the way — I sincerely hope this game raises Williams’ ERA by at least a run. First pitch is at 1:20pm CT on Marquee and 670 The Score.
