Jordan Wicks Scratched from Friday’s AAA Start, Could Rejoin Cubs Soon
According to Tommy Birch of the Des Moines Register, Jordan Wicks has been scratched from his Friday start for the Iowa Cubs. No word yet on the reasons for it, but this was likely to have been the lefty’s final rehab outing before returning to the big club. Though the Cubs’ starter for the series opener is still listed as TBD on their website, the announced on Wednesday that Shōta Imanaga, Javier Assad, and Jameson Taillon were in line to face the Nats.
That said, it would make sense to push everyone back a day and give Craig Counsell a little time to figure out what to do with Kyle Hendricks. The Professor has looked pretty rough for a while now and had one of the worst starts of his career in Pittsburgh, so skipping him when the Pirates come to town next week would be a good idea. Except that the Yankees come to town right after that.
Whatever ends up happening, I am just hoping this doesn’t mean Wicks has had some sort of setback. Given this news came out more than eight hours prior to the I-Cubs’ game, I’m guessing this is most likely a personnel move.
