Quantifying Hope: Cubs Enter Weekend with 3.3% Chance to Make Playoffs
The Cubs are mathematically still alive heading into their weekend tilt with the Blue Jays, but their postseason odds are worse than ever and lower than all but the Pirates in the division. That tends to happen following a sweep. Facing five straight teams with losing records may be the only thing keeping those odds at 3.3%, though it may not keep fans engaged unless a big winning streak comes out of it.
Not exactly what you want to see from a team spending more on payroll than any of its division rivals, especially following the revelation from Jed Hoyer that the Cubs expect to surpass the luxury tax threshold this season. Yikes. I don’t have much else to say without being even more redundant than usual, so that’s it for this installment.
