Chicago Cubs Lineup (7/31/24): Cubs Look to Salvage Series with Hendricks on Hill, Wisdom at First, Bethancourt Catching

According to Jed Hoyer, the Chicago Cubs took a win-next-year approach to the trade deadline. That is to say that the team feels relatively unchanged from the version that put up a 51-58 record so far this season. Nonetheless, the Cubs will attempt to salvage the series with a win tonight against the Reds.

Kyle Hendricks (2-9, 6.95 ERA) takes the hill today for the Cubs and will attempt to quiet a Reds offense that has come to life in the first two games of the series. Hendricks has just two quality starts in 14 attempts, with both coming since June 25. So perhaps he’s trending in the right direction.

Ian Happ leads off for the Cubs tonight playing left field. Recently acquired Isaac Paredes bats second playing third, followed by Seiya Suzuki in right, Cody Bellinger at DH, Patrick Wisdom at first. Nico Hoerner is playing second, Dansby Swanson is at short, Christian Bethancourt is catching, and Pete Crow-Armstrong is in center.

First pitch is scheduled for 6:10pm CT tonight from Great American Ball Park in Cincinnati.
