Chicago Cubs Lineup (7/24/24): Tauchman in CF, Mastrobuoni at 3B, Steele Starting for Series W
The Cubs couldn’t push so much as a single run across during last night’s rain-delayed game, but they’re still in position to win the series behind Justin Steele. They have scored a total of seven runs in five games since the break and have been shut out twice, so maybe it’s time to break the trend.
It helps that they’re facing former Cub Rob Zastryzny, a super good dude who’s never been able to stick at the highest level. After logging 34.2 innings from 2016-18 in Chicago, the lefty has tallied just 31.1 frames between the Mets, Dodgers, Pirates, and Brewers. This will be his third start and ninth overall appearance for Milwaukee, over which time he has yet to allow an earned run.
Both of Rob Z’s previous starts have been abbreviated efforts, so expect him to be an opener in this one as the Brewers lean on their bullpen. It would be really great for the Cubs to get something going immediately so everyone can watch the game with a little less anxiety.
Today’s lineup sees Nico Hoerner at second and Michael Busch at first, then it’s Seiya Suzuki in right and Ian Happ in left. Christopher Morel is the DH, Dansby Swanson plays short, Mike Tauchman is in center, and Tomas Nido is behind the plate. Miles Mastrobuoni rounds things out at third.
First pitch is at 1:20pm CT on Marquee and 670 The Score.
