Chicago Cubs Lineup (7/23/24): Suzuki DH, Tauchman RF, Taillon Pitching
The Cubs can win their third straight game with a victory over the Brewers tonight. And yeah, maybe I just cursed their chances. Or maybe, just maybe, this Cubs team is what we think they are. Jed Hoyer doesn’t have a lot of faith in this year’s version of the team since just today he said the Cubs won’t make any moves for just this year unless “things change dramatically.”
Sweeping the Brewers would at least be the start of a dramatic change.
Jameson Taillon (7-4, 3.10 ERA) has been a pleasant surprise this season and he’s looking to build on that tonight. He’s been very good at Wrigley, posting a 2.91 ERA at the Friendly Confines, backed by a stout 23.6% strikeout rate. Leaving 83.8% of runners on base at home doesn’t hurt either.
Nico Hoerner leads off playing 2B tonight, followed by Michael Busch at 1B, Seiya Suzuki at DH, and the red-hot Ian Happ at LF. The always adventurous Christopher Morel is playing 3B, with Mike Tauchman in RF, Dansby Swanson at SS, Miguel Amaya at C, and Pete Crow-Armstrong in CF.
There’s rain in the forecast for tonight, so hopefully the Cubs can get this one in. We’ll see.
