Chicago Cubs Lineup (6/24/24): Hoerner Leads Off, Nido Catching, Steele Starting
The Cubs are not a very good baseball team, but playing even worse teams helps them look better. They’ve only won two series in the last sixish weeks, and those came against the White Sox and the same Giants squad they’re facing for the next four days. With five straight losses, San Francisco might just be the right opponent to help the Cubs pull their heads from their own asses.
Justin Steele is still without a win on the season because of the ineptitude of the rest of his team, but his luck has to turn at some point. Perhaps Nico Hoerner can get things going in the leadoff spot. Seiya Suzuki follows in right, then it’s Cody Bellinger as the DH, Christopher Morel at third, and Ian Happ in left. Dansby Swanson is at short, Michael Busch is at first, and Tomás Nido makes his second start as the Cubs’ best offensive catcher so far this season. Pete Crow-Armstrong rounds out the lineup in center.
On the mound for the Giants is opener Erik Miller, who faced the Cubs twice in three games last week. The second of those was a start in which he struck out two with a walk in his inning of work before giving way to a bevy of relievers. Assuming Bob Melvin opts for a similar strategy tonight, it’s really not worth digging into the various options.
