Chicago Cubs Lineup (6/23/24): Ryno Gets Statue on 40th Ann’y of Sandberg Game
I have found myself apologizing far too often for being overly dismissive with the lineup posts this season, but I feel like it’s for a very good reason this time. Today is the 40th anniversary of a legendary contest dubbed The Sandberg Game and its hero will have his statue unveiled during a pregame ceremony at Gallagher Way. Not bad timing for my first game at Wrigley this year.
We’ve been in the southwest suburbs since Thursday for my son’s baseball tournament and his last game was early this morning, giving us the opportunity to make it to the ceremony and game. For those who may not already know, my son’s name is Ryne. The first time I held him as a newborn, I watched a DVD version of that iconic game with him. Well, I guess he wasn’t really watching.
The whole father-son baseball trope can get a little played out at times, but I’m leaning into it in a big way this weekend and it feels pretty good. I have no doubt the statue stuff will be awesome, now I’m just hoping the Cubs give us something to celebrate on the field as well.
First pitch is at 6:10pm CT on ESPN and 670 The Score.
